Another successful fundraiser… and something a little bit different

This July, Solario Racing’s night at Windsor races raised £325 for GPRDA with a special day out for over 30 guests.

The coach left Berkhamsted mid-afternoon and arrived at Windsor races over an hour before the first of seven races. During the journey, Solario Racing’s Simon Double (also a Trustee) went through the card, described the tipping competition and gave some guidance on basic betting for those who were not experienced racegoers.

Well done to GPRDA Corporate Sponsor, Stephen Horrey, who arrived at Windsor by his own steam and helped set up a pitch with tables and chairs for the coachload of guests.

The weather was perfect, sunny and around 21 degrees and guests studied the form in earnest before handing in their tipster competition to Simon with the £5 entry fee. The Winner Takes All pot was £155, so it was well worth having a go.

During the evening, three favourites won but there were some shocks including a 20/1 and a 10/1 winner. The Windsor package included a fish and chips supper and a drink which seemed to go down well as did the opportunity to go into the paddock to experience being a racehorse owner.

After racing, there was an hour of music, courtesy of an excellent Bob Marley revival band and the coach left Windsor for Berkhamsted around 10.30pm. On the way back, all the tipster results were read out in reverse order and it was a big well done to RDA coach, Lindsay Nicholson who walked away with £155.

Everyone had a good time and it was great to see so many Trustees, coaches, volunteers, Corporate Sponsors and local businesses supporting the evening.

We’ll do it again next year as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations!
